Emirates E-Sports Federation and ITW Universe Announce Global E-Gaming League, Launching March 2025

The Emirates E-Sports Federation, in collaboration with ITW Universe, officially announced the launch of the E-Gaming League (EGL), a groundbreaking global esports competition set to debut in March 2025. This first-of-its-kind league, based in the UAE, will introduce a franchise and draft format modeled after traditional sports leagues like the NBA, EPL, and IPL, marking a transformative moment in the global esports landscape.
Leadership from the Emirates E-Sports Federation and ITW Universe outlined their vision for the EGL and its impact on the future of esports in the UAE and globally. The event offered an exclusive preview of what to expect from this landmark league as it gears up for its 2025 debut.
A Revolutionary Esports League
The EGL will feature six franchise-owned teams competing across multiple game categories, including MOBA, FPS, Sports, and Racing. Players will be selected via a structured draft system, making it the first global esports league to adopt this format. The league aims to create a sustainable, competitive ecosystem that drives greater player engagement and develops emerging talent.
International star players and up-and-coming amateurs will have the chance to be drafted into these franchises through a series of qualifiers beginning in March 2025. Top-ranked amateur players from these qualifiers will participate in a player auction, providing them the opportunity to showcase their skills on a global stage.
Sheikh Sultan Bin Khalifa Bin Shakbout Al Nahyan, President of the Emirates E-Sports Federation, expressed his enthusiasm about the EGL’s potential: “The Emirates E-Sports Federation was established to drive the development of esports in the UAE in a fair and regulated manner. The EGL will revolutionize the esports industry and bring together publishers, players, organizers, and brands to foster the future of esports in the region. We are excited to create an event that will change the trajectory of esports.”
Saeed Ali Al-Tahir, General Secretary of the Emirates E-Sports Federation, highlighted the league’s importance for the regional scene: “The EGL represents a major milestone for esports in the UAE. It will provide a platform for emerging talent while positioning the UAE as a key player in the global gaming community.”
“With over 15 years of experience in the sports industry, we are thrilled to partner with the Emirates E-Sports Federation to launch the EGL. This multi-franchise, multi-genre league will set a new standard in esports, positioning the UAE as a hub for esports innovation and talent.”

Fostering Local Talent and Expanding Esports
The EGL is also focused on nurturing local talent. Hammad, Head of Events and Competition at the Emirates E-Sports Federation, emphasized the league’s commitment to developing the next generation of esports players through comprehensive programs.
As the global esports industry continues to grow, with revenue reaching $92 billion in 2023, the EGL seeks to capitalize on this momentum by applying traditional sports models to the esports world. ITW Universe, as co-owner, will play a vital role in bringing this innovative concept to life.
Nayeem Khan, Head of Gaming/Esports at ITW Universe, expressed his excitement: “The EGL will transform gaming by introducing a draft system that opens new opportunities for talent. This league isn’t just a tournament—it’s an immersive entertainment experience with fan zones, community events, and live performances, bringing esports to mainstream audiences.”
