Fortnite Back on App Store in Europe and Worldwide on Google Play Store

Just in time for Absolute Doom.
Following four years of legal disputes with Apple and Google over app store fees and policies, Epic Games is opening up a new mobile shop that includes Fortnite. Users can now download Fortnite on the Google Play store worldwide.

CEO Tim Sweeney anticipates that mobile players on Android and iOS will be drawn to popular titles like Fortnite and Fall Guys. Epic hopes to reach 100 million new installs by the end of the year, with the goal of taking half of the $188 billion worldwide gaming market share via mobile gaming.
“The entire games industry is in a suppressed state compared to what it would be if there was free and open competition among stores,” Sweeney remarked.

Epic intends to impose a reduced 12% cost for mobile purchases. Although it lost its case against Apple, the business was successful in its action against Google for unfair competition. Even if downloads for mobile games fell by 6% in the second quarter, game makers are still keen to avoid paying Apple and Google fees. While Epic is working with outside platforms such as AltStore, Microsoft is developing its own mobile shop.

Epic will continue to provide a revolving collection of free games in an effort to draw in customers on the new platform.
Epic intends to open its shop to other developers in December, and it will provide self-publishing resources to iOS and Android customers in the first quarter of 2025.
