Ghost of Yōtei Announced as Ghost of Tsushima Sequel

A new chapter in the Ghost saga is on the horizon, with Sucker Punch Productions announcing a fresh adventure called Ghost of Yōtei.

The reveal came during PlayStation’s latest State of Play event, where the gaming world also received updates on upcoming titles. Slated for a 2025 release, this upcoming title will feature a brand-new protagonist, Atsu, and promises a new original storyline set against a brand new backdrop.

Ghost of Tsushima was a breakout hit for PlayStation in 2020, with gamers playing the role of Jin Sakai, a samurai who grapples with preserving honor while defending Tsushima Island during the Mongol invasion.

The original game combined stealth, combat, and an open-world experience in feudal Japan. According to Andrew Goldfarb, the studio’s communications manager, the team aims to “honor the foundations” laid by the original while pushing boundaries with new characters, regions, and stories.

“We wanted to take the essence of what made Ghost of Tsushima special, but explore it in a different light. By introducing Atsu and the region around Mount Yōtei, we’re venturing into new territories, both geographically and narratively,” Goldfarb shared in a blog post.

Set in 1603, Ghost of Yōtei shifts its focus to the untamed wilderness surrounding the majestic Mount Yōtei in what is now Hokkaido. This was a region yet to be integrated into Japan’s formal governance, presenting players with vast landscapes, icy plains, and untold dangers.

With excitement building for Ghost of Yōtei and the arrival of PlayStation’s PS5 Pro this November, the next few years are shaping up to be monumental for Sony fans. Watch the trailer for Ghost of Yōtei right now.
