Remedy secures full rights to complete Control franchise
The Finnish developer has taken full control of the Control franchise, purchasing it from 505 Games.
The deal, approximately EUR 17 million , transfers all rights for the existing and future Control titles, including Control 2 and the multiplayer spin-off codenamed Condor, back to Remedy Entertainment
Since partnering with 505 Games in 2017 for the original game’s release, Control has achieved significant success, selling over four million copies and generating substantial revenue.
CEO Tero Virtala emphasized that regaining the rights aligns with Remedy’s strategic vision for greater autonomy over its creations and intellectual properties.
This move allows Remedy to freely determine the future direction of the Control franchise, exploring various opportunities with potential partners while ensuring the continued progress of Condor and Control 2.
Remedy has also announced its intention to expand the Alan Wake series, following the critical and commercial success of Alan Wake 2. After years of anticipation, the sequel surpassed expectations, becoming the studio’s quickest-selling game and earning numerous accolades.
This acquisition marks a significant step for Remedy in consolidating its portfolio and reinforcing its commitment to developing and controlling its intellectual properties, setting the stage for future expansions and projects.
