Star Wars: Outlaws Unveils New Starships and Crime Syndicates

Ubisoft Massive is crafting a story for fans new and old on their new adventure across a galaxy far, far away…

Ubisoft Massive is gearing up for the release of “Star Wars: Outlaws,” set to hit shelves next month. As the anticipation for the game has been lukewarm, the team at Ubisoft are working hard to gain traction for it and have rolled out a series of trailers and updates to excite fans.

This new footage showcases what awaits players in this expansive journey through the seedy underbelly of the Star Wars universe.

Taking place between the events of “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi,” the game follows the journey of Kay Vess (played by Humberly González), a rookie scoundrel navigating a galaxy in turmoil.

Accompanied by her loyal companions, the adorable Merqaal creature Nix and the compulsory droid side-kick ND-5, Kay will set out to carve a name for herself amidst the chaos of the crime underworld.

With a vast open-world encompassing five planets and their surrounding space, players will navigate these environments on foot and also aboard their own starship, the Trailblazer. Senior designer Allen Frank, drawing from his love for classic Star Wars flight simulations, emphasized the importance of seamlessly blending ground and space gameplay dynamics.

In orbit above each planet, players can dock the Trailblazer at space stations akin to planetary towns, where they’ll encounter diverse NPCs offering contracts, alliances, and potential threats.

The team revealed that these orbital spaces are divided into regulated and unregulated zones, each presenting distinct challenges and opportunities for players like Kay.

Discussing the design philosophy behind Kay’s ship, the Trailblazer, art and world director Benedikt Podlesnigg highlighted its rugged yet agile aesthetic, drawing inspiration from ’70s-era designs and even automotive influences like the Ford Mustang. This ship serves as Kay’s nimble partner in navigating the perilous expanses of space.

Ubisoft also released a behind-the-scenes trailer delving into Kay’s interactions within the criminal underworld, shedding light on key syndicates and their roles in the game’s narrative.

Central to these dynamics is the formidable antagonist Sliro and his syndicate, Zerek Besh, presenting a stark contrast to Kay’s humble origins and resourcefulness.

“The Art of Star Wars: Outlaws” was announced at SDCC as part of Lucasfilm’s publishing panel. Scheduled for release on June 3rd, 2025, the book promises an insider’s look into the vibrant characters and diverse locales featured in the game.

“Star Wars: Outlaws” is scheduled for release on August 30th for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. As anticipation mounts, fans can expect more updates and insights into this ambitious addition to the Star Wars gaming universe.
